- Never leave candles unattended: Always extinguish candles before leaving the room or going to sleep. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles away from flammable objects: Place candles on a flat, sturdy surface away from curtains, clothing, paper, or other easily flammable items.
- Avoid drafts: Drafts can cause candles to burn unevenly or flicker out suddenly, increasing the risk of fire.
- Trim the wick before lighting: Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before lighting the candle to prevent black smoke and ensure a controlled flame.
- Don't move lit candles: If you need to move a lit candle, extinguish it first, let it cool, and then move it carefully to avoid spills or accidents.
- Don't let the wax burn all the way down: Extinguish the candle when the remaining wax is about ½ inch from the bottom of the container to prevent overheating and container breakage.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets: Candles can be dangerous for curious children and pets. Keep them out of reach and teach them about the dangers of playing with fire.
- Use a candle snuffer: Use a candle snuffer to extinguish candles instead of blowing them out, as blowing can create sparks or hot wax droplets.
